Tube Cricket example

Hi, I do apologies for the long silence but university does take a long time. But now that the year is over I can focus more on this blog.

Anyway I got another tube pedal for you today. It is some kind of fusion between the noisy cricket and the valve caster. The idea beavis had was to make a tune preamp and a solid state power section using noisy cricket’s. This small creature uses one 12au7 tube which could be substituted by any other 12at7, 12ax7, etc… And a LM386 opamp. In other words, very little component count. Enjoy!!!

I unfortunately do not have a video but this is more a small amplifier than a effect pedal and is great for people who want a small relatively powerful practice amp. It could be used for recording, I am sure. I am personally awaiting for delivery to build mine it being a poor student I can only afford small orders ever so often. The following youtube video is an example of what a small tube amp might sound like, and you should expect a similar sound to this. Breadboard it first though. If anyone has a video to submit I will put it straight away. And don’t hesitate to share your mods!!

See you soon for some new stuff.

  1. Hi, does the gain pot going on the feedback of the opamp means that the overdrive/distortion comes from the lm386 clipping?

  2. Hello,
I get a loud buzz on the output.
Pulling the tube doesn’t make it disapear.
Any idea where tot search? Cant really fine the problem.

    Thanks

    • It has been a while and without pictures of the circuit it might be hard to answer. You could bring your question to a stackexchange forum or on the diy forum. (Be sure to post the link here) My bet is youre grounding the output somewhere should it be directly or maybe with a weak wire near a big ground wire
